Single-Girl Style: Downtown Decadence

now: nanette lepore's stunning bedroom
Six years ago, Elle Decor featured the Manhattan brownstone of fashion designer Nanette Lepore. It was one of those legendary shoots - eternally popular with shelter enthusiasts online. This is a family home, not a "single-girl's," but the styling is distinctly feminine. LIVINGetc just revisited Lepore's home with the launch of her homewares line... and it's still stunning.

now/then: a whole room just for her clothes and accessories
The master bedroom seemed like such a feat of elegance and intimacy. Upscale with the mirrored headboard, but not too fussy. The seating area had glamorous furnishings with that bohemian touch of the leafy silver sconces. Now, it reads warmer with the more colorful bedding and rugs, while remaining a bright oasis from the rest of the house.

then: master bedroom maximizes the impact of color + light
My favorite room is the wood paneled den. The crystal ship-shaped chandelier is a show stopper and everywhere the moody Victorian-ish bones are accented with bright color. Those turquoise curtains paired with the plush orange arm chair and the tufted leather sofa add a sense of brightness that might otherwise be lost by a room where the dark walls/floor/ceiling are eating up the natural light.
then: stately accessories that hold their own in a grand space

And the reflective surfaces of the chandelier and multiple glass/metal accent tables also carry light in. I suspect the space is more dazzling in person when you don't need to manage the reflections to get good photos. Perhaps Lepore keeps some monster disco balls around to really sparkle it up. (I have a few small ones and they make quite a light show.)

now: a sense of coziness pervades despite the grand ceiling
now: a riot of color grounded by the wood paneling
Maybe the most popular room featured was that of Lepore's daughter, which featured a custom upholstered, full-size daybed.

now: teen queen surrounded by her mother's new high-end decor
then: i love that pagoda shaped etagere
An addition to the profile is a guest bedroom designed to take full advantage of the house's bones. The fireplace and high ceiling are both emphasized by the show stopping chandelier and the turquoise mirror. Once again, Moroccan accents are eclectically mixed with Baroque and Modern pieces for a plush, cozy effect. Anyone staying over in this room must feel extremely welcomed.
